The 35mm focal length serves as the default standard for many M-system shooters, offering a natural field of view between the wider 28mm and tighter 50mm options. This version improves on earlier Summicron 35mm designs with better close-focus performance (0.3m minimum) and consistent rendering at all apertures.

At f/2, the lens balances speed with compact size—significantly smaller than f/1.4 alternatives while maintaining excellent optical performance. The aspherical elements control coma and field curvature, producing sharp results from center to corner even wide open. Build quality matches Leica's standard: brass construction, smooth focusing action, and precise aperture clicks.
