M Lenses
M-mount lenses span seven decades, from the original collapsible 50mm Elmar to current APO-Summicron designs. The bayonet mount introduced with the M3 in 1954 remains mechanically compatible across all M bodies, film and digital. Modern M lenses feature aspherical elements, floating element designs for close focus, and apochromatic correction. Manual focus and compact dimensions define the system—even the fastest Noctilux 50mm f/0.95 remains pocketable compared to SLR equivalents.
